Making the Most of Your Nested Die Shapes

Here is a fun idea I got from Connie Stewart’s blog at Simply Simple Stamping a few years ago, and it’s worth revisiting.

Take any set of die cuts that have the same shape in different sizes. Some examples from Stampin’ Up! are the Stitched Shapes, Stitched Rectangles, ovals, circles, etc.

Put 3 of the dies on cardstock to make 2 open shapes and one solid one. Then use the smallest shape to cut out a piece stamped with a sentiment.

Stamp and assemble the card as shown.
Here is the card from Connie’s original post, which inspired me to try it. If you would like more detailed instructions with the measurements, please leave me a comment with your email address.

Can't bear to throw away those scraps of Designer Series Paper? Here's an idea for you!

I don't know about you, but I can't bring myself to throw away the scraps of beautiful Designer Series Paper that are left over from projects. Especially the 6x6 inch papers. What can I do with the 2-inch strips I cut from the pieces that go on card fronts?

Well, Stampin' Up! has given us this clever design template to show off and use up those pieces!

Here we have a demonstration of 3 different styles of card-making, what SU calls casual, avid, and artfully avid. Which on of these fits you best?

Step It Up: Flower & Field Designer Series Paper

CASUAL
To create our casual card, stamp the sentiment in Night of Navy ink on a layer of Basic White Cardstock, then adhere the stamped cardstock to the Mint Macaron card base. Stamp the heart image in Flirty Flamingo ink using the stamp-off technique. Then, make five banners from our Flower & Field Designer Series Paper, either using the Banners Pick a Punch or snip the ends in a banner cut. Adhere the banners to the card front using Stampin’ Dimensionals and tie with a Linen Thread bow. Done! You have the perfect, easy card to let someone know you care.
AVID
Add a little extra detail to the second card by spritzing with Bumblebee Classic Stampin’ Ink Refill using the Stampin’ Spritzer. Embellish the banners with flowers die cut using the Wreath Builder Dies, and add 2020–2022 In Color Enamel Dots. Die cut the sentiment using the Stitched Rectangles Dies, then finish with a fussy-cut, stamped heart popped up with a Stampin’ Dimensional. Pretty sweet!
ARTFULLY AVID
For our artfully avid card, we adhered additional flowers fussy cut from Designer Series Paper, plus some Vellum Cardstock. For an extra-lavish look, we layered on a die-cut heart and a fussy-cut sentiment, then amped up the artistry even more with a lacy edge made using Flower & Field Designer Series Paper and the Budding Blooms Dies.
Stepping up your cards is so much fun! Start simple and go big. Mix and match until you find the look that is right for you. You could even invite friends over to brainstorm avid and artfully avid alternatives for the casual card. We can’t think of a better way to spend an afternoon!

Now is the perfect time to shop and earn fantastic Sale‑A‑Bration rewards—like our fresh and colorful Flower & Field Designer Series Paper shown here—when you meet the qualifying purchase threshold. But don't wait too long - Sale-A-Bration ends February 28!
